Well after weeks of rumors it finally happened Sony has released new information on the so called PlayStation 4.5. The news is still coming out about the features. The report released has a comparison of power for the GPU on the PlayStation 4. Another reason about the importance is this will come with built in support for Virtual Reality that Sony has spent the last year researching. As well what and how will Sony competitor will respond to the move of the creation of a Half generation console that out power the Xbox One WiiU and especially the PlayStation 4 the best selling console of the current generation.
So the PlayStation 4.5 Aka NEO will leave all console of the current generation behind in the dust and give Sony a gaming gap they have enjoyed since the start of the newest console generation almost three years ago. The upgraded include an upgraded CPU, how powerful ?, the release information compares the current PlayStation and the Neo at “8 Jaguar Cores @ 1.6GHz 8 Jaguar Cores @ 2.1GH” this power out form not only the PlayStation but also the Wii U and the Xbox One to a point even further than the the game that exists now. The GPU stats compared to the now PlayStation is “AMD GCN, 18 CUs @ 800MHz Improved AMD GCN, 36 CUs @ 911MHz”, Again this power not only out shines the current PlayStation 4 but both competitors. Lastly released was the specs for NEO is going to have a larger storage capacity when compared to the current PlayStation RAM is “8GB GDDR5, 176GB/s 8GB GDDR5, 218GB/s”. This out performs again the older PlayStation 4 as well as the Xbox One and Nintendo WiiU.
The new Neo will feature built in support for Sony’s Virtual reality head set. This is a major break through if Sony can market it the right way to gamer the same way that Kinect did on the Xbox 360. The VR system is in direct competition with Microsoft Oculus and the HoloLens both of which are not ready for serious gaming use. If Sony gets this system working they could have a massive edge in the next generation that will follow the Neo as well as the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U. Games that specially made for this technology are already under development. One such game series is the next in the Ace Combat series Ace combat 7. The developers working on Ace Combat seven have not detailed but more is to be released at E3.
Now how will both Microsoft and Nintendo react to this development ? A new console before the start of the next generation that even leaves its predecessor in the dust. Phil Spencer Xbox head has already told the Xbox community not to expect an Xbox 1.5 while Nintendo has been left out of the equation all together. There is also no information if this is the PlayStation that will support cross platform play ability.
Also while this console is still more powerful it still lacks when compared to a Gaming PC.
